Abbas Ourmazd, UWM, publishes commentary on the meaning of 'structure' and its relevance to function in Nature Methods

Abbas Ourmazd, BioXFEL Member and Distinguished Professor of Physics at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, an expert in algorithm development for single particle studies and other applications has published a commentary on structural biology in Nature Methods.   The article highlights how modern methods utilizing XFELs and Cryo-EM can be complementary to each other as well as traditional cyrstallography.

"Ludwig Wittgenstein famously said, the limits of our language define the limits of our world.  If so, a key limit to our understanding of structural biology is this: what do we mean by ‘structure’?

We are interested in biomolecular structure, because it sheds light on biological function. But function involves changes in structure."
