| Description: | PAL-XFEL Call for R&D beamtime ProposalsInformation for R&D beamtime
PAL-XFEL operates the R&D beamtime program independent from general user beamtime. It is opened for the experiments that meet the following criteria.
Establishing new experimental techniques or instruments at PAL-XFELProving critical performance of PAL-XFELNew users with no experience in XFEL experimentsCOVID-19 related research using PAL-XFELTime resolved SFX with solution mixing and injection techniqueApplications of nano-focused hard X-ray FELApplications of the self-seeded XFEL R&D beamtime proposals will be decided by PAL internal review. Please contact for more details and submission of the proposal to PAL-XFEL Beamline (palxfel-beamline@postech.ac.kr)Schedule for R&D beamtime
Although the PAL-XFEL takes the R&D proposal throughout the year, the evaluation will be carried out on the following schedule.
The proposal deadline for the first half-year of 2022: Sep 5, 2021The result will be announced within two weeks after the deadline. PAL-XFEL Source Characteristics       Hard X-ray FEL Beam Characteristics

All visiting users must register the PAL system and attend a radiation safety course. All applicants are required to contact the PAL-XFEL staff in advance to discuss the experimental details and submit a beamtime application. The beamtime proposal must be submitted by the principal investigator (PI) of the research team. Students are ineligible. In case of change (or addition) of the samples or experimental setup specified in the proposal, users must obtain the agreement of PAL-XFEL and KOSUA (Korea Synchrotron User Association) prior to the beamtime. PAL-XFEL will provide the help for implementing such change/addition, but is not responsible for the plan that is not in the original beamtime proposal. For all kinds of beamtime proposals, an End of Run Report should be submitted to the user office of PAL within one year after finishing the experiment.Proposals are required to be written in English.PAL charges users in accordance with the Government policy. For non-proprietary research, the fee is KRW 250,000 per shift (12 hrs). For proprietary research, the fee is KRW 50,000,000 per shift.
