New Opportunities at EuXFEL

Description:

The European XFEL saw its first user experiments in September 2017. This exciting new light source promises to open up new types of experiments for structural biology with XFELs. EuXFEL is different from previous XFELs like LCLS and SACLA in that it provides extremely high pulse repetition rate and a unique pulse train structure. The high repetition rate of some 27000 pulses per second (compared to 120 Hz at LCLS) enables rapid data collection for serial crystallography and single molecule diffraction experiments. This means new data collection strategies are needed to deal with the rapid data acquisition, data reduction, high bandwidth and storage requirements for data processing.

BioXFEL is hosting a new workshop in our popular XFEL Data Analysis series of workshops focused exclusively on data collection and analysis at the EuXFEL. This workshop will feature discussions on:

  • production and properties of X-rays
  • beamlines and their capabilities
  • sample environment
  • sample delivery strategies
  • new opportunities in single particle imaging, solution scattering, and serial crystallography
  • new types of detectors and data reduction strategies
  • data analysis, access, and curation
