High School Learning Communities

The BioXFEL Center commits itself to expanding interest in, and knowledge of STEM fields. Our programs will engage teachers and spark the imaginations of young students. It will prepare high school students for advanced coursework in the sciences.

High school students and college freshmen/sophomores can learn about BioXFEL research through the BioXFEL Ed Scientific Villages at ASU. Scientific Villages are small communities of students that investigate XFEL-related scientific questions side-by-side with BioXFEL scientists at ASUThe Villages elicit excitement for XFEL science and interest in graduate study and STEM research careers.

Villagers present the outcomes of their projects at a Showcase Open House at the end of each session. Students who participate in their first Village session can work on advanced research projects as Special Research Assistants in future sessions.
