| Description: | May 6th, 3:00 - 4:30 PM (EST) Many membrane proteins are recalcitrant to forming 3-dimensional crystals for structural investigation by X-ray diffraction, yet readily form 2-dimensional crystals. 2D protein crystallography has to date only been performed with electron diffraction, however it is limited by factors such as radiation damage and sample charging. With the advent of the XFEL, new opportunities for the development of 2D crystallography using X-rays have become possible. In this lecture, Dr. Matthias Frank will discuss the theory and recent advances in 2D crystallography with XFELs. |
