Dr. Brent Segelke is a senior staff Biomedical Scientist at LLNL. He works on molecular mechanisms of infectious disease, process development for structural genomics, protein structure-function, and biosecurity. Dr. Segelke previously worked on structure-function of protein toxins and human immune proteins, as well as probability theory of searching protein crystallization parameter space.

Dr. Segelke received his Ph.D. in Biophysics from UC San Diego in 1995, and a BS in Chemistry from UC Davis. He has developed high throughput processes for structural genomics, most notably an automated design engine and crystallization center for high throughput protein crystallization. He has authored and co-authored ~40 publications in peer-reviewed journals as of 2013, and is co-inventor on a number of patents relating to structural genomics.

Dr. Segelke is expert in macromolecular X-ray crystallography and the molecular mechanisms of protein function. His expertise will contribute to the development of XFEL bioimaging through sample preparation and structure analysis.
