LCLS Users' Meeting 2016 - BioXFEL Event

Description:

BioXFEL is sponsoring an event following the LCLS Users' Meeting on Saturday, October 8, 2016. This is a half-day session open to all users' meeting graduate students, postdocs, and young scientists. The intent is to facilitate peer-to-peer networking and multi-disciplinary interactions. The session will include a Scientific Career Discussion panel and a BioXFEL Education Program Renewal Planning Session. A tour of LCLS beam lines is planned for all session participants. Please  register with SLAC to join this portion of meeting. There is a checkbox at the end of the registration process that should be selected in order to be included. There is no cost to join this additional session.

The BioXFEL session will be in held on site at SLAC in Kavli Auditorium in Building 51 (adjacent to 53) -  MAP

 

BioXFEL Education Program Planning Session

BioXFEL administrators and attendees will discuss the Education Program plans for the upcoming 5 year renewal. BioXFEL is interested in getting feedback from Scholars on specific programmatic aspects and input on new education initiatives. This will include a comprehensive overview of the new program and the goals. Scholars will be asked to contribute by providing feedback on the timelines, initiatives, and goals. 

Scientific Career Discussion Panel

This Career Discussion Panel will include individuals who have made a transition from a traditional academic career pathway into an alternative scientific career. The panelists will be asked to include some personal testaments on their progression and will answer questions about their experiences. Panelists will be familiar with our science and currently hold positions at well-known companies, institutions or agencies. Confirmed speakers currently include Oliver Zeldin of Facebook and Hope Michelsen of Sandia National Laboratories.

LCLS Beamline Tour

All attendees are invited to take a guided tour of the LCLS beamlines. If you would like to take the tour, please register for the meeting here and select the BioXFEL Session option. Tours are subject to availability and security protocols.
