Category: Workshop
Description:

BioXFEL Protein Production and Purification Workshop

The NSF BioXFEL Science and Technology Center will be sponsoring a workshop on March 16th, 2018 for all interested UPR researchers. The full day course will cover the basics of the biochemistry, cloning, expression and purification of proteins. We will discuss the theory behind common techniques as well as provide examples, sample materials, and a handbook of common protocols. This workshop is intended for undergraduates or graduate students that are interested in pursuing a research career in biochemistry or a related field and are currently involved in a research project.

 Tentative Schedule:

TimeWorkshop
9:00-9:30 Overview of the Workshop and BioXFEL Center
9:30-10:30 Introduction to Protein Biochemistry
10:30-11:00 Q + A, Demonstrations
11:00-12:00 Introduction to Common Cloning Techniques
12:00-12:30 Q + A, Demonstrations
12:30-1:30 Lunch Break
1:30–2:30 Introduction to Recombinant Protein Expression
2:30–3:00 Q + A, Demonstrations with Coffee Break
3:00–4:00 Introduction to Protein Purification
4:00–4:30 Q + A, Demonstrations
4:30–5:00 Protein Quantification and Applications

Participants that stay for the duration of the workshop will be sent an official completion certificate.  Handouts containing common protocols and some sample laboratory materials will also be provided. Contact wbauer@hwi.buffalo.edu with any questions.

Registration for this event is now closed as the workshop has reached capacity.

If you would like more opportunities to work with us, please check out the following programs and events:

  1. Our Summer Internship for undergraduates is now accepting applications.
  2. The Annual International BioXFEL Conferences.
  3. Our Annual Conference Travel Scholarship helps underserved groups attend the conference. If you want to go to the conference, you should apply.
  4. You may also be eligible for the BioXFEL URM Fellowship program that supports graduate students’ research at their home Universities.

This workshop was sponsored in part by Anatrace and Molecular Dimensions. Many thanks to them for donating the supplies!
