The BioXFEL National Science Foundation Science and Technology Center is pleased to announce that it will be hosting its fourth annual international conference in Las Vegas, NV January 10th - 12th, 2017.
Conference Co-Chairs: Dr. Lois Pollack (Cornell) & Dr. Petra Fromme (ASU)
A scientific poster session will be held with posters available for viewing all three days. A poster committee will be judging posters during the session and the award will be announced on the final day of the conference prior to closing remarks. Posters should be 30h x 40w inches landscape. If you have a larger poster already printed that you would like to use please email the conference organizer to ensure there is a board of your size available. A poster template can be found here.
Single Particle Workshop January 9th
The STC will hold a Single Particle Sample Delivery Workshop organized by Uwe Weierstall (ASU) and Rick Kirian (ASU). There will be a full day workshop. BioXFEL Members and UPR students may attend at no cost and will have an the additional night of January 8th at Caesar's covered. This workshop is open to all interested parties.
XFEL-based single-particle imaging techniques hold the potential to reveal the high-resolution structures of non-crystalline bioparticles such as proteins and viruses, including dynamical systems on fast timescales. Along with algorithmic developments, great progress has been made over the last decade to continuously improve data collection rates and data quality. Nonetheless, the widespread application of this technique will require significant improvements to the quality of samples delivered to nano-focused x-ray beams, the efficiency of sample delivery, and reductions in the level of background scatter. This workshop consists of a series of presentations by specialists in the field, that aim to outline the present challenges and to showcase recent progress in single-particle imaging.
Confirmed speakers include:
Matthias Frank (LLNL)
Johan Bielecki (Uppsala University)
Jochen Kupper (CFEL)
Carolin Seuring (DESY)
Andrei Rode (Australian National University)
Charlotte Uetrecht (XFEL)
Andy Aquila (SLAC)
Jake Koralek (SLAC)
Filipe Maia (Uppsala University)
The conference will be held at the Caesar's Palace located just ten minutes from the McCarran Airport. Taxi service is available just outside the airport. Credit cards are accepted in all cabs.
For BioXFEL Members & Scholars, the STC will cover lodging for four nights 1/9, 1/10, 1/11, and 1/12 up to the maximum rate of a double occupancy room at $89 + resort fee and taxes. If you are attending the workshop we will also cover the night of 1/8. If you are attending the External Advisors Meeting we will also cover the night of 1/13. The rates on these nights are $149 + resort fee and taxes. Please keep this in mind and book accordingly.
